This is the third in our new series of “Take 5″ interviews designed to introduce you to the members of the Board of Directors of the Albion HS Alumni Foundation. We will highlight one board member at a time until we have introduced you to all of our members. This post will highlight Shannon (Eisermann) Baron.

Today we “Take 5″ with Shannon (Eisermann) Baron

AHS Alumni Foundation Board Member

Shannon (Eisermann) Baron graduated from Albion High School with the Class of 2000. She attended SUNY Brockport for college, where she received a BS degree in Computer Science. After college, Shannon married Jeffrey Baron (class of ’02) and started a family. She decided to become a stay-at-home Mom for her two children – Natalie, a 9 year-old fourth grader at Albion, and Zack, who is 7 and in the second grade in Albion. After staying at home with her children for seven years, Shannon realized that she wanted to work with children for a living, so she went back to school (GCC) to obtain her teaching assistant certificate. She was a substitute teacher in Albion Elementary during the 2012-2013 school year and is now happily working as a cafeteria monitor in the Kendall Elementary School. Shannon and her family live in Albion. Aside from spending time with her children, who are her world, Shannon enjoys reading, taking walks, and learning new things.

And, now for our interview:

1.    When did you join the board of directors and what is your role?

I have been a member of the Alumni Foundation Board for four years.

2.    What sparked your interest in being a part of this board and what do you like most about what the Foundation does and your involvement in it?

When I attended my first meeting, I really had no idea what to expect. I knew nothing about the Foundation, but was invited to attend by my friend Marissa. I stayed because I came to understand the value that the foundation brings to our community. Our scholarships can be truly life changing, and we provide a way for those from our community who are interested in starting a scholarship to do so. As valedictorian of my class I was able to receive a full scholarship to SUNY Brockport, so I know first hand how life changing a scholarship can be.

3.    Tell us about your experience at Albion HS and how your experiences influenced you either in school or in your life after school.

I had a wonderful experience attending school in Albion. I had the most amazing teachers and I believe that I received a superb education. My own children now attend Albion schools as well, and I can’t imagine them anywhere else. The teacher who made the biggest impact on me was Mr. Bemont, my high school English teacher. He taught me that a great teacher truly cares about his students and will do everything in his power to help them succeed.

4.     What motivated you to go into the career you chose and what led you to your higher education choices?

I chose to work with children because I love kids – plain and simple. Now that my children are both in school, I work during the day in Kendall Elementary taking care of the kids there during their lunch break. I do everything I can to brighten up their days and to make sure that they are well taken care of while I am there. It is very rewarding working with children and knowing that you are making a difference in their lives, even if only for a little while.

 5.     What advice / words of wisdom do you have for our current students and recent graduates?

My advice is to do what is best for you and don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. Follow your own path in life and don’t try to please anyone but yourself. Everyone has something to offer and every job is important. So, figure what is special about you and share it with the world!
