Stuart New Scholarship
Description:
This scholarship was initiated by the Albion Chapter of FFA in 1959 to honor the
memory of Stewart New. Mr. New taught agriculture at Albion High School from
1944 until1958 and served as the Future Farmers of America supervisor. He
encouraged and supported the education of students in our community who were
interested in working in the agricultural field. This scholarship, in turn, is in support
of current students who have demonstrated a work ethic and goal related to an
agricultural career in the local community. Given by Dr. and Mrs. Ronald Harling.
Selection criteria:
• Agricultural career goals, enrollment in higher education, college or otherwise
• Letter of application and letter of recommendation
Who Selects:
• Alumni Foundation selection committee
Criteria to earn:
• Successful participation in a higher education program, i.e. GPA of 2.5 or higher,
certificate of participation or completion in post high school program
Funding:
• Funding annually
• Awarded on Class Night
Additional Notes: The intent of this scholarship is to support students with financial
need and while not a criteria, should be a consideration of the Alumni Foundation
selection committee. Candidates should not be limited to college perspective
students only but should be inclusive of students who are seeking to further their
learning in the agricultural field through any post high school programs.
