LumberImage source: WPB During the war wood had many applications as lumber: buildings, such as depots and barracks, wood, cardboard and paper shipping containers, often replacing steel, which had more important uses, and burlap, which could no long be obtained from Southeast Asia. Because of its abundance, it was used carelessly until 1944 when its dwindling supply became apparent. Therefore, lumber priorities were established to maintain an adequate supply. WPB 73-75 |
