21st Century Overview - Air Intake

Intake of air (containing oxygen) to the system is required for combustion of the gasoline.   Air is cleaned of dirt and dust by the air filter and fed through the intake valve to each engine cylinder.   The downward movement of the piston during the intake stroke creates a partial vacuum that pulls in the air.
