November 18, 1860. Atlanta:The Georgia legislature votes 1 million dollars to arm the state. Long 6 December 8, 1860. Washington: Secretary of the Treasury, Howard Cobb, resigns. Long 9 January 3, 1861. Georgia militia seize federal Fort Pulaski on the Savannah River. It was occupied only by an ordnance sergeant and a civilian, but it is a strong fort that the Georgia government intends to keep from Union occupation. Long 21 January 19, 1861. Georgia secedes from the Union by a vote of 208 to 89 in a state convention at Milledgeville. Long 27 January 24, 1861. Augusta: Georgia militia seize the Federal Arsenal. Bowman 44 January 26, 1861.
