Food for humans and feed for domestic animals are required for life.   In ancient times, obtaining sufficient food required considerable labor and risk of famine, which people sought to reduce with machinery, breeding and and chemicals.   These are discussed under (1) food production, (2) food manufacture, (3) edible horticulture, (4) animal husbandry.
